It also is a video tour of the ship as it is today, a museum of U.S. naval history. Now permanently installed in Corpus Christi Bay, the USS Lexington Museum on the Bay is toured by thousands of visitors each year. In this one-hour program, viewers will see rare footage of "The Lady Lex" which was destroyed in 1941, footage of the 1942 christening ceremony of "The Blue Ghost" and perhaps most intriguing, the stories of life aboard ship during wartime as told by over a dozen former crew members. Highlights include: The dramatic story of Vice-Admiral Marc Mitscher's decision to turn on the lights of the USS Lexington to allow returning pilots to land safely, despite the possibility of attack from a Japanese submarine.
